Self storage means your things are handled by nobody but you. At Paarden Eiland, Parow, Woodstock and Zone 7 that is a drive-up unit you unlock yourself. At Maitland and Johannesburg you can bring your own items in and collect them yourself, by appointment, without using the valet service.

Worth knowing before you book
- Rates differ by site. The same 5 m² unit is not the same price in Parow as in Paarden Eiland, so compare before booking.
- Sites fill up. Availability is live on each site page — if a size is taken you can join the notify list, or we will find you the nearest fit.
- Insurance is yours to arrange. We insure the facility, not the goods inside your unit. Most household policies can be extended — ask your insurer.
Would rather not drive anywhere at all? The same pods can be collected from and delivered to your door instead — that is our valet service.

What is self storage?
Storage where you handle your own things. At Paarden Eiland, Parow, Woodstock and Zone 7 that means a lockable drive-up unit you unlock yourself. At Maitland and Johannesburg you can bring your items in and collect them yourself by appointment. The difference from valet storage is simply whether we do the collecting and delivering for you.
What size unit do I need?
Units run from 2.4 to 30 square metres. Rather than guess, run it through the storage calculator — it sizes it room by room in a couple of minutes. Height matters as much as floor area, so packing well often saves a whole size band. You can also send us photographs and we will size it for you before you pay anything.
What does self storage cost?
Units start from R650 a month at Parow, which is our most affordable site. Rates differ by site and by size — the same size is not the same price everywhere. Pods at Maitland and Johannesburg are R750 each per month, and bike storage at Zone 7 starts at R950. Check the site pages for current pricing.
Where are your self storage sites?
Six sites. Drive-up units you unlock yourself are at Paarden Eiland, Parow, Woodstock and Zone 7, which also has dedicated bike storage. Maitland and Johannesburg are indoor pod warehouses where you are welcome to drop off and collect yourself by arrangement.
Is there a deposit?
No. Cape Storit does not take a deposit at any of our sites. You pay your first month’s rental, sign the lease, and book a time to move in.
How long do I have to commit for?
Rental runs month to month with two weeks’ notice. You do sign a storage lease when you reserve, but there is no minimum term and no deposit.
When can I access my unit?
At Paarden Eiland, Parow, Woodstock and Zone 7, during your site’s access hours — the unit is yours and you hold the key, so no slot or notice is needed after your first visit. At the Maitland and Johannesburg pod warehouses, give us notice — 24 hours at Maitland, and subject to availability — and we will have your pod ready at the front when you arrive.
Do I need to be there to be let in?
On your first visit, yes — our sites are unmanned, so when you reserve you pick a move-in time and a team member meets you there to hand over and show you around. After that the unit is yours and you come and go with your own key during the site’s access hours.
Can I see a unit before I book?
Yes. Ask us and we will arrange for you to view a unit at the site you are considering.
Is my stuff insured?
Cape Storit does not provide insurance coverage for the goods stored inside your unit. While we insure the storage facility itself, it is your responsibility to obtain insurance coverage for your stored belongings. We highly recommend that you secure insurance coverage to protect your goods against potential risks or damage. Please consult with your insurance provider to explore suitable options for insuring your stored items.
What can’t I store?
Hazardous, illegal and perishable items are not allowed. Defrost and dry the fridge, drain the fuel from the mower, and ask us first if you are unsure about something.
What if the size I want is not available?
Sites fill up, and each site page shows live availability. If a size is taken you can join the notify list on that unit, or check another site — we will help you find the nearest fit.
